Hi,
Has anyone had occasion to monitor contractors /caretakers exposure when stripping polish from floors using propriety products like 'Carefree' speed stripper?(Johnson Diversey)This product contains up to 30% of 2-butoxyethanol, which has a WEL of 25ppm(EH40/05)

Presumably this will be used diluted with water. In which case, what is the residual concentration of 2-butoxyethanol? As I understand it this product is used cold. Are you using it with a scrubber-dryer?
If so then with the vacuum pick-up of the waste water/polish mix I very much doubt whether there would be enough left on the floor to evaporate to be even detectable.

On a serious note have you got the current data sheet as JD state this to be an alkaline based stripper on the web? They may have changed the formulation. If I am correct your people may be using the wrong gloves and othher control measures.

If you have a solvent based version I would be looking towards good ventilation as well as some monitoring to prove the controls are adequate. You could find that levels in the operator breathing zone may be higher than expected.

Thanks Robert,
Yes it is Solvent(Butox) based JD ref:SKU 1040080 and substitution may be the answer. Still have to find a stripper, but NOT this weekend.

Check back with JD as your supplier may be still holding previous stock. If so the substitution is fairly straightforward but your people will need to attune to the fact that it is corrosive and thus present different hazards.

Thanks again,
JD have now sent me details of simulated worst case exposure(no vent via mop etc) to two strippers i.e. ProStrip & Bravo.ProStrip contains both Butox and caustic soda. But no exact match ,I will press them further.

Damn pity this thread wasnt on the Careers forum.

I'll tell you if you ever want anyone for the above title, drop me an e-mail.

Getting paid to "monitor" strippers sounds way better than paying to get into buy the overinflated drinks to pay to get them to strip. . . . . .

Yeah about the actual question. . . . ill go with what the person above me said. . . .
