Hi,

When do Fire extinguishers need to be regularly checked? Is it every year, or every 6 months. Who can you call to check them?

Thanks!

Fire extinguisher are usually checked annually by a competent person. Try and get your supplier to come each year and check them out undertake any maintenence required and replace those which are time expired or defective and issue you with a certificate. You can undertake some checks yourself in the interim period byt checking the seals are intact and checking the gauge to see they are charged correctly. That's about all the lay person can do to ensure they meet the legal requirement of actually having fire extinguishers in place and will work when needed. As to cost around £200 a year plus the cost of replacement extinguishers.

Hi,

Bobs points are correct, interim basic check by yourselves (is it still there for a start, have known them to walk).

There are plenty of companies around that cover servicing, ensure they are competent. Phone round prices vary greatly, if you have a lot get a good price.

They will need the inspections mentioned by Bob, the service engineer additionally should discharge & refill every 5 years (powder, water & foam) and stretch test every 10 years (co2).

What lovely items I used to be responsible for 850 of the little blighters on a top tear COMAH site.
