Does anyone have any information as to safe method of work for Asbestos removal (roof sheeting) and re-cladding/roofing of a large warehouse?

Warehouse Occupants wish to continue use of sections of the warehouse during work.

Thanks

My first concern would be about segregation and safety of the the workers in the warehouse then plan how you remove and re-clad.
Is it confirmed that the old cladding has ACM
The obvious safety protocols, WAH, access, damping, removal, disposal, weather!!
The old cladding should be removed in complete sheets by bolt cropping the "J" bolts or other that are attached to purlings , working beneath the sheets. Then plan on how you get them to ground level and to skip.

I suggest you get hold of a copy of HSE publication HSG 189/2 - Working with asbestos cement. Also have a look at the following link

http://www.hse.gov.uk/as...os/essentials/index.htm.

There is a wealth of relevant guidance there.

Also try and get hold of a copy of The Advisory Committee for Roofwork, Best Practice Guide - Safe Working on Fragile Roofs. You should be able to get a copy from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors or the Fibre Cement Manufacturing Assoc.

Last but not least please remember that the Control of Asbestos Regulations will apply and you have legal duties to prevent the spread of asbestos and to prevent exposure. Your operatives must also be appropriately trained.

Hope this helps.

Also remember that under CAR the onus is on you to prove under Reg 3(2) that the work is not licensable. So if you're not sure how to go about making the assessments and control measures, maybe one for a specialist? Even if the work is not licensed there's a lot to be aware of and maybe for a job of this scale not the best place to start out learning if you're not up to speed on CAR and removal methods.

Thanks Liesel,

I'm fully aware of the Irish Legisltion regarding control of exposure.

I want to ensure that our Client employs a specialist and I want to advise our client on the implications this will have on his business.

I was hoping that someone here would have first hand experience on large scale asbestos cladding removal and give me some tips on various methods.

thanks again.

Shane
