Posted By Rommel Someone called one of my sites this morning and bombarded the Site Manager with questions, supposedly they were doing a survey on behalf of HSE, has anyone else received such phone call?

Posted By M Forbes No, but ill count that as a heads up!
To be honest i would never give information over the phone from the top of my head.
You have to be carefull what you say especially if it involves HSE, i would have asked for them to send the survey in writing, and if you want to answer the questions, do it in writing.

Posted By Lime Jelly Hi,
Yes, I have received the same type of survey enquiry over the phone pertaining to be on behalf of the HSE. I instructed the caller to apply in writing to my Post Title within the organisation. Not heard a sausage since.

Had the same thing last week, the gent didn't give a company name, or his name or contact details.
I have spoken to the Construction Division at Rose Court and have been told that they are not aware of any survey and recommended that I speak to thier FoI department. I spoke to them today and they will be coming back to me later on.
I'll report back any info that I get.

Posted By db It's being done on behalf of HSE by Ipsos MORI and as such every detail remains confidential.
It's a telephone survey so they will not write to anyone and the results will go towards a study to obtain comparative data on health and safety practices in the UK. This is, I think part 2 of the study which started in 2006.
It's up to you if you want to co-operate or not but it is valuable work. HSE say that more information can be gained from HSE London office - ask for Construction and Communications and Program Management Unit.

db thanks for that, I've got to admit that the person I spoke to didn't inspire confidence, he seemed very reluctant to give any information and was asking for persons involved in the project that were in another company associated with the project.
Given his manner, the old HSE Registration Authority scam sprang to mind, I thought this was a variation on it.

Posted By Kevin Coghill Had the same thing just before Xmas & interestingly just after an HSE visit. Asked the caller if it was a legal requirement to answer the questions, no was the reply so no was also my response!

Posted By Jay Joshi I have constributed to several surveys carried out by reputable orgnisations(such as Ipsos MORI) on behalf of HSE, but the caller has always been upfront i.e. clarify what the survey is about, and a contact telephone to verify the bona-fides.
At other times, it has been the organisation that is conducting specific research (published as HSE research reports)for HSE.
If we all refused, it would be difficult for the HSE to get information on various initiatives and stakeholders. HSE does not have the staff to do it themselves
Obviously, the staff carrying out the survey are not with health & safety background and use a prepared questionnaire with either a yes or no response or gradation such as such as agree/disagree etc.

Posted By AlisonSM Having worked for an organisation that does research on behalf of the HSE, at the very least the person should have been able to provide details as to what the survey was for and who was the lead person at the HSE involved (so you could phone and check whether legit).
The HSE can also add a page on their website about any large studies which the caller can direct the individual to and it may be worth them doing this in this instance..
