Posted By corinne godfrey Hi there!
it would be great if anyone could provide me with some practical solutions on how to mark a diverse range of lifting equipment i.e. chains, hoists, overhead cranes for purposes of statutory inspection.
The marks would have to be of industrial strength because of the nature of what we do here. We were considering paint but there must be other solutions. We wont to provide obvious markers for employees so there is no confusion about whether an item can be used or not!
Thanks in advance!

Posted By M Forbes We tag slings with a colour coding system, if the sling is not this months colour it is not allowed to be used in any lifting operation.
You could find a way to adapt that system.

Posted By Jane Blunt In a previous job we tagged our slings using nylon ties.
Although there was a lot of wear and tear, in general they did manage to survive the six months until the next inspection.

Posted By Jane Blunt Having just re-read your post there are two issues - one is tagging so that the user knows it is in date - for this nylon bands are very useful and available in a range of colours. They are ideal for most lifting accessories.
For marking up the individual identification numbers on equipment, I suggest paint.

Posted By Utkir Hi,
Previously we have applied color coding, but in a fact people were keep using unsafe equipment, even they are marked as unsafe. Now we just remove all unsafe equipment away to storage place with notice sign "Do not use". This will avoid human factor.

Posted By John A Birch CMIOSH Hi,
We have a wide range of lifting plant and equipment in constant use. We use 'Cow' tags to colour code all our equipment. These have the advantage of being one solid colour and are also designed tom be written on. On the very few smaller items of equipment we use paint.

Posted By Miss C Hughes Thank you all for your help - we had a coloured plastic tag in place but they were frquently knocked/worn off.
I think paint could be the way forward for some items - any ideas on types of product and suppliers!
