Posted By Jeanette Reid Can anyone help with information on additional support aid to reduce the potential to fall from heights while carrying out loft insulation? I have trialled various crawl boards, which include extending/concertina systems and as of yet the feedback from the users is that they potentially cause more of a risk.

Posted By Alan Hoskins Hi Jeanette, Could "potentially cause more of a risk" equate to "they slow the job down" do you think? Cynical? Never! Alan

Posted By Dave Merchant In a cramped domestic loft with lots of braces they probably do cause a risk - if you're fighting to install them you're probably more likely to slip, and they won't help if they're not yet fitted! You have to go with as-far-as-is-reasonably-practicable in domestic premises and there's no universal answer - if you can use boards safely then you should - if they increase the risks then you shouldn't. Remember that the WAHR clauses on fragile surfaces still allow some flexibility in protection, such as using something underneath the ceiling instead of above it (in an empty property PFPE airbags are surprisingly easy to use)
