Posted By Ian Is there a time limit for filling in an accident book, or can it be done in retrospect 1 or 2 months later?

Posted By lizzie harvey Can I ask why it would take so long to fill in the accident book? An employee must notify their employer of an accident at work "as soon as is reasonably practicable". The employer must fill the book in *a.s.a.i.r.p.* and conduct an investigation into what happened and why, etc. This is to fulfill both RIDDOR (if required)and the Social Security Act (may affect claims for SSP/Incapacity)
Filling in the book retrospectively is a bit of a shady area - backdating a big no-no!! Ask yourself why there is such a delay, and remedy it asap
hope this helps

Posted By LeeHart1 I am afraid Lizzie is right.
You can find yourself on rather dodgy ground with retrospective inputs.
If you do find yourself "forced" to make an entry, annotate it accordingly as a late entry and if you can find no knowledge of either a first aider or a supervisor / manager, annotate this too.
Even though there is no knowledge you would be wise to exhaust your accident investigation protocols, too many months will mean too many changes in both the minds of those involved as well as those who "think" they were involved!
I hope that this helps with your enquiry and I wish you good luck in your defence as ultimately this is where it will go!
Kind Regards,
Lee Hart

Posted By anon1234 There is no time limit - anyone has the right to make an entry in the 'accident book' at any time in respct of accidents at work. What you do with the information is another matter as it what weight it may carry in a future claim.
