I am investigating the feasibility of carrying out internal audiometric testing of our employees.
Does anyone know the advantages / disadvantages between the different types of audiometers available?
Some are stand alone instruments, some are instruments that are linked to laptops, and some appear to be laptop based only with no additional instruments attached.
I can't find a supplier that sells all three types and who can explain the advantages / disadvantages to me.
In the case of the laptop, how is the sound produced and calibrated, and is the laptop only setup (no attached instrument) an inferior setup?
Confused, Stephen.

Try First stop safety at www.firststopsafety.co.uk
They do several types and training course as well. Very good.
I purchased the Oscilla type which is a pair of headphones with all the electronics built in. Plug it into a laptop and away you go. It calculates everything and gives categories of hearing loss.

Thanks Barry, but what I don't understand is how any two laptops can generate the same tone and volume, doesn't this depend on the type of sound card in the laptop and the volume settings etc., in which case would there be a difference between laptops?
Stephen.
