I understand that the Daily Telegraph will be running a story tomorrow about the Ripon Pancake Race being cancelled due to 'elf and safety.
The story is in the Ripon Gazette http://www.ripongazette....ety-kills-off.3732774.jp
Perhaps our President would like to react to this story.

Makes ones proffession seem really worth while.
Looking between the lines it would appear that to costs of closing a road is the underlying cause. The risk assessment is not a problem based upon the hazards and risks associated with this activity. History, how many kids have been injuered in the last 20 years doing a pancake race.
Who answers to this amazing excuse, Council red-tape, insurers?
I'm off to assess the effects of the next solar eclipse on 1,800 employees (not really)...

This event was revived 11 years ago but has a history of some 400 years!
One can only speculate at the death toll over the years.
No wonder Ripon is one of our smaller cities!
I have replied to the local paper. I was a student at the local grammar school.

"The insurance companies demand it"
"There seems to be a lack of interest in it too,"
"Finding volunteers to man the event on the day was just getting too difficult,"
But, we'll blame Health & Safety as a good get out.
"Pancake races in Bedale are to go ahead next Tuesday following an outcry over their cancellation. Organisers had cancelled because of the high costs involved in closing off the High Street, but have now agreed to run the event on an alternative route."
I think they must have forgotten to edit this from the article, finding an alternative does not fit the agenda.
