Posted By JJ We're trying to determine if there is any legislative standard or guidance for the acceptable front and rear overhang of loaded lorries. In particular we're interested in any precautions/signage required for varying lengths of overhanging loads. Any help would be appreciated JJ

Posted By Pete48 Devil is in the detail, type of load etc. Try searching on "overhanging loads". You will find several types of guidance. Here are a couple I found to get you started. http://www.dft.gov.uk/pg...loadsonvehiclescodeo4566 http://www.ukfpa.co.uk/p...ODE_OF_PRACTICE_2003.pdf

Posted By Martin Gray JJ you need to get hold of a copy of 'Road Vehicles (Authorisation of Special Types) (General) Order 2003 - STGO. The legislation goes into a lot of detail concerning special loads including projections and markings and as to whether an attendant is required. Martin Gray

Posted By Steve j B Have a look at the Construction and Use Regulations and special types vehicles. Try googling it and see what happens. There are a number of vehicle side and end marker boards, and lighting requirements also police notification and the presence of an attendant for some projections over the ends of the vehicle. i seem to recall 2.0 metres, 3.05 and 4.5 metres as being relevant for forward projections and 1.0 metre, 2.0, 3.05 and 5 metres for rearward projections. i think things differ slightly for special types. Sorry i cant be more specific as to what is required for each trigger length. Might not be much use but it has been a while since i was involved in transport. Steve
