Posted By Stuart James Gornall Does anyone know the requirements RE Asbestos Waste disposal typically Chrysotile ( Soffits facia boards ETC none AIB)
I am obviously aware of waste transfer notes etc but am looking particularly at skip storage from site to land fill / disposal
As long as the skip / container is secure does the Asbestos have to be double bagged / wrapped bearing in mind the last thing anyone wants is to break up asbestos into pieces to fit in a bag.
Is there a difference in storage requirements for licenced / none licensed activities ?
Thanks in advance

Posted By Dave Wilson It should be Double Bagged in approved UN waste bags OR double wrapped in 1000 gauge Polythene with Asbestos stickers on the package.
It must be transported in a sealed skip / lorry / van etc.
If storing on site before removal it must be in a secure lockable area, preferably in an enclosed skip.
It must go to a Waste Landfill site who hold a waste management licence to accept asbestos waste.
It must be transported under the Hazardous Waste Reg consignment note procedures, and if above 200kg in any one year then the site must have a premises code from the EA, (unless exempt)before it is moved.
If carrying above 330kg Blue / Brown or 1000kg White then the Dangerous Goods Regulations will also apply (DG Regs does not apply to bonded Asbestos as SP 168 in DG Regs exempts)
Driver must be ADR trained & passenger DG Aware
Must Have safety equipment on board, 2kg in cab & 6kg in /on the vehicle Dry Powder Fire Ex, 2 warning triangles, 2 wheel choks, 2 torches, hi viz / PPE / RPE / Eyewash/ first aid kit.
Must Have tremcard on board.
Hope that helps a bit

Posted By Dave Wilson Yes it should, HSE EM9 and HSG 247 say so.
Problem is that some Landfill sites don't want Bonded Asbestos Wrapped at all.

Have you found that the Monocell sites are becoming more rigorous over their acceptance criteria? Some seem to regard plastic as active waste and thus refuse loads.
Hazardous sites need it double wrapped in any case or will refuse it.
Many people still seem to think however that all asbestos has to be landfilled as Hazardous waste.

Posted By Dave Wilson We have had occasions where the guys have turned up with Asbestos Cement / Floor tiles and we have had to unpack it before we are allowed to put in their cell!
