Posted By Steve B Ladies/Gents, I work on a site where we are continuously building large plants, chemistry laboratories etc. The workforce on site at any one time can be in excess of 300+ and they come and go as and when their trades are required. My problem is INDUCTION tracking, I am trying to devise a method of identification of induction training whilst I am out on site. I want to renew individuals induction every six months. I have heard (somewhere) cant remember, hence this request, that a bar code card system can be used which when scanned by a handheld bar code reader can identify training and identification of the individual, this can also be linked to software that identifies refresher dates etc. (on the other hand I may have dreamed it all up). has anyone come across any such system? I know of the Training bar code system operated by either CITB or CSCS but I am looking for a basic system that we can develop to meet or own needs. any ideas? Regards Steve B

Posted By Dave Merchant It's very possible - if your company already uses something to track production, then you simply make each employee 'a product' and put their training info into the database. If not then you'll of course need to adapt one of the millions of commercial database systems to do it, and there are barcoding add-ins for Sage etc. available. The biggest listing of barcode-related equipment is at http://www.barcode.co.uk/products/catalogcat.htm paper ID cards with barcodes can be printed on any desktop printer, but for more permanent cards there are options to self-print plastic thermal dye transfer (making a credit-card style object), see http://www.barcode.co.uk/products/cat29.htm for a list (I've used Magicard's desktop printers and found them to work very well)
