I am looking at using a chemical to clean some stainless steel and am a little confused with a section on the data sheet:

Disposal Considerations:
Waste key number according to (LAGA) (Landerarbeitsgemeinschaft Abfall) : 54408

Does anyone know what this refers to or what special considerations I am supposed to make as a Google search has not returned anything very helpful.

Cheers

This should be a reference to the European Waste Catalogue, you can google for a copy. Trouble is though is that it does not match the format. This EWC number has to be inserted in any Transfer or Consignment note.

The instructions are relatively straightforward. Without knowing your cleaning agent any further help is difficult.

Cheers Bob,

It is called Ano-polish and has been requested by a client directly. It comes from Germany and is rubbed in then buffed out to remove heavy duty grease and grime (some of which has not been touched for 15 years) from stainless steel.

I will look out for the EWC

The EWC code is a 6 digit number, so what you have is something else. A quick Google search found this "Tthe working group of the federal states on waste (Länderarbeitsgemeinschaft Abfall, LAGA)
issued a categorisation of waste types, comprising 589 types of waste, of which 333 have
priority for control (LAGA-Abfallartenkatalog). This catalogue was valid till 12/31/1998 and
is now replaced by the European waste catalogue (EWC)."

Apparently there was an interim LAGA table as well but I would ask the supplier what EWC code you should use. Alternatively you may be able to work this out yourself from the EWC code definitions - try here http://www.environment-a...w_guide_v1.2_1397222.pdf
