Posted By Barry Cooper The latest news item referring to hot tea or coffee being banned for under 16 year olds "These drinks are unlikely to be offered to younger students because of the dangers of nutrient displacement of healthier drinks, the inappropriate addition of stimulants, and for safety reasons relating to the handling of hot beverages." Although the ban is mainly due to poor nutritional value, some newspapers have just highlighted the ban is due to health and safety reasons. They love to have a go. Posted By Pete48 Barry, only if you want to read this one that way! Seems to me to be a simple report about a proposed, voluntary code to guide schools on food/drinks to offer within schools. Note--proposed for discussion and voluntary. It is nothing more than HMG saying; we have all these obese kids, what do we do about it, should we have a code to guide schools on the food/drinks they choose to provide. The alleged quotes from the NAHT are probably reported out of context in much the same way as the bit you decided to extract from the article.

Posted By Barry Cooper Pete My statement comes from the fact that a local paper also reported on this issue, but they stated that the ban was due to H&S reasons of handling hot liquids. I then searched the web, for other reports that I found mentioned nutritional reasons, which I don't have too much of a problems with (except a cup of tea is great). I was stating that the press love to have a go, particularly when not quoting all the facts Barry

Posted By Pete Longworth Fact of life..... goes with the job.... blah blah blah. How many more times do we have to have this type of discussion. It will stop when we are no longer flavour of the month. At one time it was single mothers, then hoodies now health and safety. Pretty soon it will be something else. Whinging about it will only prolong the agony.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Shall we eliminate water also as it has absolutely no nutritional value and merely serves to hydrate the body with no caffeine hit to keep you going. Bob:-)

Posted By Bob Shillabeer Quite right it is a flavour of the month to have a go at H&S. I often get it from friends I meet with regularly, because they don't understand what it is about and see these types of reports and believe them. It is quite right to avoid letting them get under your skin and continue to work towards the holy graile of complete safety. If we don't we are giving in to the people who are fronting this attack because they find it difficult to comprehend. Just keep on with the day job folks.
