Posted By fawzy ahmad farrag I shall be thankful for every body to suggest the suitable and effective system and the correct fire fighting agent in domestic animals hangers specially for birds like chickens. We know that it is very important to select the fire suppresion agent which will not damage occupancies or killing any lives in palce of fire even this agent is excellent in extinguishing fire. Also we know that in case of any fire occurred to these hangers, the escaping chickens may transfer the fire quickly to the neighbors. The problem here is that if we use sprinkler system, the water will not be suitable, also any other type of extinguishing agent like CO2, dry chemical powder, foam will kill the chickens. How could we solve this problem?

Posted By Robert K Lewis Water is the only possible solution that is non fatal. The only other options are to release the flock or to accept its loss in a somewhat gruesome end. Bob

Posted By GT Fawsy, Can I presume that a risk assessment has been conducted. You have identified sources of ignition and combustible material. Then what other than the birds is going to ignite? GT

Posted By Ashley Wood This is a strange one! As a fire consultant I would recommend a high pressure water misting system. This is like a sprinkler but uses a fraction of the water quantity and would be safe for the birds. Your use of the language makes me think that you may not be in the UK? If you advise us where you are I can suggest a couple of local suppliers of these systems?

Posted By fawzy ahmad farrag Thanks for all for their response. Robert K Lewis I think to use water there is the potential hazards of drawning of birds. GT Fire risks in these houses: 1-they are all constructed from wood with wire mesh frame 2-Electical warming appliances 3-Cartones of egges 4-Electric wiring Ashly Wood Your suggestion to use such high pressure of water may be the safest way to fight fire but I do not know if we have in Egypt any of supplieres of this system.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Fawzy As Ashley has said there are a number of water fog/sprinkler type systems and you certainly do not need to flood the barn. Bob

Posted By Ashley Wood Yes, water mist systems have been installed in Egypt. Take a look at the following manufacturers www.fogtec.com www.hifog.com www.hydramist.co.uk All the systems are genericaly the same so its just a question of price and service base availability.
