Posted By alice clark Are you by law able to use bleach in the work place. It is an office environment and the bleach is used in the toilets and sinks. We have done risk assessments for it and have carried out training to all of our house keeping staff.

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Yes, Alice There are relatively few substances which cannot be used for certain purposes under COSHH; see reg 4 and Schedule 2 here - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/s...002/uksi_20022677_en.pdf Bleach is not one of them; however, is bleach the most appropriate cleaning agent or disinfectant for your needs? Posted By CFT No law against using it in current UK legislation but as a Group we chose to not use the stuff years ago. There is now a plethora of fully bio-degradable environmentally kind products that will do a stirling job. You don't get white marks on all the carpets, you don't get Mrs Mop adding it to other products and creating chlorine gas (among other things) That was our risk assessment, control measure was don't have it on the premises. I have on a handful of occasions caught cleaning operatives sneaking some in to our properties with a reply on one occasion (it's the only clean one I can print), 'oh give it a break all this healf an safety malarkey, I've bin using breach fer years at ome an me an Albert have bin fine, mind you, come to think of it e does have asthma and he did pop his teeth in in one day' praps you might be right after all Mr!' I refer to an actual conversation; must have left a set of clean teeth though! CFT

Posted By Martin J Morley Hi there, You asked: Are you by law able to use bleach in the work place? Yes, see previous responses We have done risk assessments for it and have carried out training to all of our house keeping staff. Do you monitor their working practices, particularly to be sure that they are not mixing bleach with other chemicals? The question was also asked: Is bleach the most appropriate cleaning agent or disinfectant for your needs? There is now a plethora of fully bio-degradable environmentally kind products that will do a stirling job. Yes, but they will not prevent or control such as norovirus outbreaks which in some environments can be a significant risk martin
