Hi All,
can anyone please shed some light on below.
COSHH cupboards (used by cleaners to keep detergents, etc.) on site are identified by the signage saying "keep locked shut when not in use" and "hazardous substances, see MSDS). I need to review the signage, but could not find anything more or less explicit what sort of signage should be used to identify COSHH storages/cupboards. I looked through internet, COSHH regs, some guidance, and only managed to find smth about Fume Cupboards and hazard signage, i.e. toxic, irritant.
I am sure signage is needed, but can any one please help to clarify what should be written on the signage and where it can be found in the regs or guidance material?
Many thanks.
Paul

Paul,
If there are flammable substances stored within the CoSHH cupboard you will need to identify this by means of a 'flammable substance' sign or something of a similar nature.

If the substances stored have a range of properties, you should use a warning sign (upright yellow triangle with black border) containing the unspecified hazard symbol (exclamation mark) and the legend 'caution - hazardous substances'.
If the substances all have the same hazard, the appropriate symbol (toxic, irritant, etc) should be used in the triangle.

...also check out the H&S (Safety Signs & Signals)Regulations 1996, which determine types of signs that can be used.
