I am looking for information as to whether any organisations recommend or offer their First Aid personnel the option of having hepatitis B inoculations.

This was brought up at a first aid meeting we held some months ago.
Firstly we carried out a risk assessment on the likelihood of someone catching hepatitis B, we did this on the type and severity of accidents we had in our workplace, the risk assessment came out at low. High risk areas would be hospitals etc.
Then you need to ask what provisions have you given the first aiders for protection?
Ours have bum bags which hold enough items to aid one person in an emergency; this also includes disposable gloves and disposable aprons. Grab bags are also available.
If there is a spill on site we also have spill kits.
In the end we decided as a company not to provide our first aiders with the hepatitis B inoculation as the risk was low.
First aiders could have the hepatitis B inoculations at their own doctors if they wanted to but they would fund the costs.

Sharon is correct, risk assess the need. As a norm in the marine industry Hep B jabs are supplied to engineers and other staff who are required to maintain sewage systems on board. An extreme example, but the risk is there!
