Hi there,
Could anyone advise on the need to conduct a risk assessment in the retail sector that covers contact with glazing, be it display counters, doors or furniture etc.
If anyone has carried out such a RA any advice would be very much appreciated.

I don't have specific experience of doing a risk assessment but I would expect that it would say that all areas of glazing should be safety glass (KIte marked) where it is reasonably expected people could contact - e.g. full length windows - display cabinets - glazed doors. Additionally marking of glazed surfaces would be necessary of it was thought that people may not be able to see them
I had a personal experience some years ago of walking into a glass panel which shattered on impact - minor cuts to knees and a new pair of trousers but could have been much worse. On further invetigation we discovered that the full length windows which formed the inside of a reception lobby area were not manufactured form safety glass but the outer ones were - probably a poor risk assessment by the designer
At that time I got hold of a British Standard that spelt out exactly waht was required in all areas - blowed if I can remember the number now but google will probably know
