Hi all,
Has anyone ever done an exposure scenario preliminary risk assessment for a new chemical to be used in the work environment? If so, how was it approached?
Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Karen, unless this is a new chemical that you are to be producing, the supplier is obliged to supply a data sheet for transport.
Once you have the basic info from this, the method, form, quantities etc of use, you should be able to use your existing COSHH assessmemnt methodology to reach a reasoned conclusion on exposures and subsequent control regime.
If it's a new process then the process designer/chemical engineer should have information that will assist.
Depending on the substance you may need to consider not only the inhalation route but also dermal, ingestion etc.
If you are really stuck, BOHS has published listings of Occupational Hygienists who do this type of work. You may even find some posters on this forum who are very knowledgeable on these issues.
