Does any one have a solution for recycling / disposing of empty 5 to 25ltr plastic containers preferably west mids area.
Can we put them in general waste or do they have specific disposal requirements for waste regulations.

Francis,
We insist the suppliers accept them back after use, they are stored for collection when they deliver, if it "one off" use and not a regular supplier they are collected and taken for recycling by the LA.

It will depend on what the bottles contained.if there is still a chance that there is a hazardous residue in the containers then these will have to be dealt as hazardous waste, and there are plenty of specialists around the West Midlands for that.
if you have a lot and the contents where not hazardous then a local plastics dealer may be able to help you out but thay would probably want you to compact them before they would consider picking them up.
your local waste collector , whoever you use may offer a sorting service. since the new regs in october came where we all need to reduce our waste to landfill and increase recycling more and more disposal companies are offering this service. if they don't they will probably know someone who can.

Obviously however they can only be recycled if the type of plastic is known. The exception being if they are returned for re-use. I fully agree with the return to the supplier as the best route of disposal.
