Posted By Ian t My company has several loneworkers who can sometimes operate in remote areas, I have got IT department to get the employeess to answer a "are you well "question through their pda. I can also track them. Im just unsure on the period of asking the question , every hour , twice a day ??. The amount of times the PDA links to head office affects battery life, hence the thread

Posted By D Mitchell Ian,
It has to be based on the level of risk. What activity are your employees undertaking?
Are your employees handling cash? Dealing with vulnerable groups? Enforcing or making decisions, health of individuals etc
Do the risk assessment. Frequencies may differ for individuals

Posted By Pat Hannaway Hi Ian, there are a number of companies out there who can remotely monitor your employees using mobiles phones. I work in an organisation (a water utility) that has many dozens of lone workers. They have all been issued with mobile phones. When they leave their vehicles to take water samples, carry out inspections of new pipes etc. they dial the number of our monitoring service. An automated phone system requires them to enter their unique ID. They leave a message indicating their location and task. THe automated system requires them to input time to complete the task.
When they have completed the job, they dial in with another code to clear the message. If they do not phone in when their original time estimate is reached the automated system calls them back. If no response, the system will automatically dial a pre-assiogned line manager. If no response from them, then a second pre-arranged contact is dialled. Assuming that conatct can be made with one of the line managers, the "missing" employees details are automatically passed on(time of call, estimated task duration and the employees voice messgae stating location and task.
The line manager can choose to try and contact the employee or contact the emergency services.
The system can be used 24 hours a day, every day.
I do not have details of the cost, but I understand that it is much LESS than one pound per call.
Google "lone worker monitoring system" and you should find a range of companies offering similar services with a wide variety of price plans.
