Posted By craig davies Good morning all, I have been asked by my environmental manager to consider the following Internet address which the IT department would like to use as the main Internet search engine used by my company. However as the screen mostly appears black with white writing on it in an attempt to save energy i have concerns over the subsequent eye strain etc that may result. Has any one encountered this search engine before and does anyone have any views on this search engine and the H+S impacts that may result? Regards.

Posted By jom Craig, I find the home page difficult to read. The text is too faint for me. It doesn't strain my eyes, but I just wouldn't bother with it. Are the search results presented with better clarity? John.

Posted By MP Seems OK to me, but it's a question of how well your monitor is set up and most of all, personal preference and choice. MP

Posted By Ron Hunter The energy saving benefits appear to be spurious. Wikipedia (yes, I know) has some interesting reading on the topic.

Posted By Della Pearlman Although I personally dislike the white on black screen, my issue would not be with the appearance, but with the quality of the search engine. While it might be powered by Google, it is a much poorer search engine - try the same search on each - I tried the words - blacked website - and got about 627,000 results on Google, and 43,800 results on Blackle. I also tried other other searches with the same results. If Blackle was more specific, that would be good, but it doesn't give you a UK site or the advanced searching that Google does. I wouldn't want it for my company search engine, as it is not as good as Google, and Google (as I am sure you know) has its own problems! (Probably not the time or place to talk about how to search, alternatives to Google etc.) Della

Posted By GeoffB4 I can't read it properly without feeling as though I am straining to see it.
