Could anyone give me a rule of thumb for the size of a safety zone around the base of a chimney during slip form construction. This will be the last control and will obviously change as the structure increases in height. Any thoughts would be appreciated, bearing in mind that materials can varying in shape, size and weight, which could influence how far an item might fall from the chimney.

The normal rule of thumb for falling objects is a 50% radius (half the height from which the object falls), but eventually this becomes impossible. The higher you go, and the greater surface-to-mass ratio of the items, the more you have to account for wind travel on top of that.
