My MD has asked for an explanation of accident freqency rates for the board of directors report. Apart from the usual spiel of 'number of accidents per million hours worked', can anyone help me with a simple laymans term that the board might read (although I doubt it!) and understand (hopefully!).
Thanks in advance, it's much appreciated.

I once worked out an approximate cost of accidents (in my case actually health effects resulting in absenteeism) per pound of turnover. The trend woke at least some of them up!

VJM,
As rightly pointed out by Chris costs make Directors sit up! Break it down to departments and their costs Directors also like a bit of healthy competition (pun intended).
