I've been tasked with putting together a H&S manual for operatives, i.e. plumbers, gas fitters, carpenters etc, and wondered if anyone can give me any ideas on what to include.
I've got things like H&S policy statement, accident reporting, mobile phones, smoking, personal safety, risk assessment etc.
They have general H&S training, so I don't want to reiterate everything that is in that; can anyone suggest anything else that would be good to add?
Thanks

Admittedly I am biased, but correct use of PPE, personal hygiene and skin care, reporting of any changes in skin (before they become serious) etc.

Brenda,
A lot would depend on how remote they are going to be working, levels of supervision and whether they have access to H&S advice. For instance are you expecting them to carry out 'dynamic' risk assessments? If so they will need to have information relating to safe systems of work and the options available for the type of work, and the environments they could be working in. These could include isolation procedures, working at height, hot work. asbestos, dust, noise, vibration and so on.

Lone working? We have put all our Technicians through the IOSH Working Safely and issued SSOW based upon a comprehensive RA. They now carry out their own dynamic RAs when on site and this works well for us.
