Just a quick question - when doing a home working risk assessment, is it reasonable to expect to supply a fire extinguisher for use in the 'office' area?

Well have a look around at your offic equipment?????, computer,mobile phone and charger,tea and coffee maker, clock, radio , fax machine,scanner,zip drive, server, lighting, heating,fire damage from adjoining rooms etc
A small CO2 Extinguisher would do you no harm at all.

Be careful where you go re home working as the more professional you become the more you open yourself up to being looked at via council tax, the inland revenue, your mortgage and home insurance company etc
A fire extinguisher in the hands of a less than competent person can be a bigger risk that if one was not present - I know of a school kitchen that was burnt down because a lady tried to put out a small fire and she actually spread it around and by the time the brigade was called it was too late
If you are encouraging home working the kit etc should be very well maintained etc so reducing considerably the risk noting that the biggest cause of fire in a home is, I am lead to believe, the cloths dryer in the kitchen!
