Risk Assessment on farm with private air strip

I am about to undertake a risk assessment on a farm which has a private airstrip on it which is used mainly on weekends. Public often walk through the farm and can walk on the air strip.
Other than signage warning that there is an active airstrip is there any other precautions that can be taken. Safety of planes landing and taking off within in a working farm has already been addressed.

I'd suggest that the CAA is your first port of call.

Is it a public footpath or just a convenient short cut used by all and sundry?

It is a convenient short cut, the farm gate is open during the day especially at harvest

Colin,
Without agitating the placard wielders would it be appropriate to remove the risk and stop or control access by the general public?

Colin,
The CAA are very helpful. Contact your local airfield who will probably have a local contact for the CAA. In my experience they are very helpful. There are numerous aviation requirements both for landing aircraft, firefighting and restriction of access.
There are also usually local bye laws that require aircraft to notify Councils etc of their landing arrangements,so there may already be a RA for landing/taking off. The bottom line is the fact that aircraft do land without notice (air ambulance etc)but usually with well controlled access.Signage alone,I would suggest is not sufficient. Phil.

If its a private farm strip I guess its uncontrolled - ie no radio. Also there will be local limits on aircraft movement. You may wish to speak to Sandown Airfield on the IOW, they have a path crossing the perimeter. Mail me if you want the details I and I get some contacts.
