Can anyone give me some direction, on how to go about developing a plan to control VOC,s in a educational establishment.
Where looking to put in place procedures which will helping us to develop a healthier working environment (and one which also reduces the impact we have on the global environment).
I am however not very well informed about this from a hazard point of view or indeed from the point of view of what we as managers and purchasers have in place to reduce the risk' so I really value your thoughts.
I’ve done a little bit of digging and VOCs are not just given off by oil based paints but by other man made products in the home and office. They are also associated with the range of physical symptoms classed as Sick Building Syndrome so it is probably something that we ought to be considering and be more aware of.

First you need to define what VOC's you are concerned about. The ones mentioned like paints are only likely to be in use occasionally and ventilation is the main control after selecting a low VOC product (look at the can). Aerosols like deodorant, polish, hairspray etc are all VOC's, are you wanting to control these?
I believe you are more likely to want to control VOC's in science laboratories that use solvents e.g. by use of fume cupboards or local exhaust ventilation (LEV).
If you wish to be more specific in your requirements and contact me direct then I may be able to offer you more assistance.
