For some time our workplaces have struggled to get people to volunteer to be trained and act as First Aiders. We have continually asked and advertised for volunteers, with minimal success. We are also paying our First Aiders an allowance, all be it a small amount to keep those we have and to encourage others but its not really getting the numbers we want. On several sites we are running below the minimum number we have set.
Does anyone have an idea with things they've done to get numbers of people, any replies greatly appreciated.

How about identifying specific individuals who you feel would be suitable and approaching them on a 1 to 1 basis, explaining that this is a valuable life skill on offer and that the potential to make a difference to a work colleagues chances of survival or full recovery is worthwhile?
Just a thought.

Agree with the 1 to 1, try and identify people who might get added value from the training i.e people who are members of historical societies, theatres, sports and social clubs etc

That should get a positive response and improve motivation, not. Make it a requirement for new recruits advertising it as part of the job spec' rather than impose it?

Put up home made posters posing questions ...
"You and a friend are at dinner, she starts to choke. What do you do?"
"A member of your family has fainted. What do you do?"
Then point out that by volunteering to be a First Aider at work, you learn life saving skills that you carry with you 24/7 ... not just at work.
"First Aid is a very valuable skill that applies at work, at home, on holiday. Take advantage of that and get the company to fund it. Volunteer today, help someone close tomorrow?"
