Good morning James. I assume you are talking about a narrow boat? I dont know if it is of any help but the RYA run an Inland Waterways Helmsmans Course which is very good and you get a book when you take the course. The main risks seem to be at locks however there are the usual risks you would get with a caravan such as gas, fire etc. You may also get some information on the Marine Accident Investigation Branch Website as there is a particularly nasty accident report available on there where some people drowned in a lock after their bow fender got caught under a lock door timber. Yes it is Working barge and should carry some load to other port
