Posted By Elliot Morton Hi Everybody
Our insurance inspectors have been on site and say they require a "Written scheme of Examination - Reg 8" for a small workshop compressor for blowing up tyres and air tools.
Can anyone offer advice on how I do this , and what format the form takes
any help appreciated
regards
Elliot

your written scheme should detail what checks you are going to do, the perameters you are checking, ie thickness, degree of rust, bleed point, any safety devices, etc, how often you are going to check and inspect, any associated pipework that is fixed ( but not any attachments, which should come under PUWER) some schemes even go into maintenance regimes etc.
However, depending on the size of the pressure vessel, ie its capacity, it may not require a scheme so check first. There is guidance on the HSE web site. (Unless some clever chap knows?).
If you are still confused, then ask your insurance company to provide one. The going rate vary's but I paid £50 for mine. They are the ones that are going to inspect it, so presumably they will know what to look for.

Posted By Jane Blunt Any vessel containing air where the product of pressure (in bar) and capacity (in litres) exceeds 250 will require a written scheme of examination. This scheme will detail the periodic checks that are required to ensure the continued safety of the item.
The Engineering inspection arms of insurance companies can usually supply, on payment of a fee. They will also usually carry out the specified checks.
