Posted By Mitch M'learned friends, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Our machines use a laser monitoring system, a customer has reported that a forklift fitted with an amber flashing beacon is activating these devices when it enters the production area. My (ignorant) understanding is that beacons are not mandatory however, I do not have access to any relevant publications HS(G)6, INDG136 or INDG199. Can anyone out there with access to these enlighten me or shall I shell out like a good boy?
Thanking you in anticipation of your co-operation.
Mitch
PS I am not suggesting removal of said beacon but possibly a shield /deflector type of mod'

Posted By David Whaley Mitch, HSG6 'Consideration should be given to fitting a flashing yellow light on top of the truck to warn other people' So no requirement.
We have a similar problem with machines stopping when a truck entered the room. Causes chaos. We disabled the flashing light on one truck. (risk assessment).
Alternatives could be screening the machines from the trucks. Obviously depends on routes, etc.
Hope this helps

Posted By Mitch Thanks David,
I know it's obviously good practise but the machines are up to 210" long, 5.3m in new money! and scanners are full length and at head height so shielding is a major problem. I have suggested replacing the (intense) strobe light with the conventional rotating light and possibly introducing limited shielding to this if that doesn't overcome the problem. My main concern was modification or removal if it was a mandatory requirement, I know the insurance surveyors are getting hot on these at the moment.
