Posted By Anthony Edwards An employer provides safety boots with toe protection and steel foot plate. A lot of employees are complaining about the boots being uncomfortable during the working day (10hrs in most cases).
There are different processes involved in defined areas. Welding, Paint Spraying, manufacturing, general engineering. Housekeeping is of a good standard i feel there is no need for the foot plate, any thoughts?

Posted By Gareth W Jones I would suggest that your risk assessment taking into account past accidents (sharp objects penetrating the soles of shoes, or damage to soles of shoes) would determine wether or not steel sole type shoes are required, I personaly work in a very similiar environment and allow our guys/girls to wear toe protection shoes/trainers only, and I have not seen any accidents or damage to the shoes or soles (15 years up to now. I can imagine a building site would require these types of shoes?
We know that ppe should be one of the last resorts, so if we need to enforce it, lets make it comfortable and non intrusive.
