We have been requested by one of our clients to undertake a C1 authorisation course in order to access substations to allow us to carry out minor building maintenance repairs, work surveys etc...can any of the learned fraternity here please enlighten me as to what a C1 authorisation is and if possible let me have a copy of a course syllabus to look at

Many thanks

The electrical network operators all have their own authorisations for operating on their network. One of these will be an authorisation to visit & inspect substations. I would assume this is what the C1 refers to, but they are different between operators.

The course content will therefore be specific to who is delivering the authorisation. If it is just visit and inspect then I would guess at a 1 day course covering mostly common sense topics (i.e. don't touch anything and run away of you see or hear anything unusual!). If they are going to be working in the S/S then you would expect maybe a more in depth 1 or 2 day course to get authorisation to receive safety documents and supervise a working party.
