With all the queries that are being discussed on this forum is it time that the RODDOR regs were reviewed and amended.
On this page alone there are four threads running on this subject which might indicate the need for change.
On the other hand we might have become less enthusiastic to consult the regulations or research for the answers.

It was always on the cards; my last news was 2007 but one would imagine with other more pressing legislation due it was put on the back burner.
Do I agree? Not certain really, it is comprehensive but very ambiguous in places vis, the threads on the subject. For the able minded practitioner there are few difficulties, for others clearly there is, and perhaps some simplification of the terminology may be helpful.
As with anything though, a read through of Riddor and supporting documentation will almost always reveal the answer without actually having to ask here on the forum; mind you, I have contradicted myself really,as when a question is posed the answers are often 50/50, "yes report IMO", "no, not reportable IMO"
Hopefully a 'con doc' will be made available one day and we will all have the opportunity to throw in our tuppence worth.

Many of the queries raised on this forum could easily be answered if the writer sat down and read the regs and guidance available.
For some reason, be it confidence or laziness, they ask here. Not a big problem as there is always someone willing to simply answer (myself included at times).
There are ambiguous cases, and the Regs were not really written to take into account real life (what a shocker!).
There are few Regs that would not benefit from guidance being written by time-served practitioners on the team (perhaps there were, but they got confused too?).
Revamp? Yes please - but before you spend time on that, sort out "reasonably practicable" ;-)

The requirements of RIDDOR 1995 are not substantially different from those previously in Factories Act 1961 Sections 80-85, then "NADOR" 1980, then RIDDOR 1985.
A few loopholes have been closed up somewhat as the requirements have evolved.
So, don't hold your breath for radical changes!
