Posted By Ron Hunter I would consider that an experienced specialist demolition contractor would be in the best position to undertake the CDM-C role too.

Posted By Peter MacDonald As the CDMC has to be appointed right at the beginning of a project it can be difficult to appoint the Demolition Contractor in this position. There are also issues of competency as many demolition companies, although competent in demolition may not be able to prove themselves competent in the role of CDMC. APS approved/affiliated for example.
There are CDMC's out there though with demolition experience but the main issue is that the CDMC is competent to carry out the CDMC role and ensure that a competent demolition contractor is appointed. CDMC role, as the name suggests is one of coordination and communication. They don't necessarily require knowledge of demolition on a technical level. Being a Demolition contractor myself I often come across CDMC's with no demolition experience and they sometimes perform their role better than the ones with a little knowledge who tend to try and get involved in changing methods to their interpretations of legislation and making tasks over complicated and more dangerous. But that's another story.
