Posted By Tabs It is impossible to say without LOTS more information, and a medical qualification.
BUT
In all countries I know, it is against the law to kill people, or harm them for medical research ... so I would have to suggest that the trial will be safe if it is done under proper controls.
Why do you ask? If you are considering being part of it and you have doubts, I really would suggest you don't do it - you will forever have doubts at each couch or ache ;-)

Posted By Dr. Andrew Rankine Hi Dineshingh If these studies are being carried out by a reputable study centre, then the first port of call will need to be the local ethical committee. A University will not, nowadays, be allowed to carry out studies on human subjects without one. Assuming that approval is given at that stage, then the studies will also have gained acceptance by a Research Council (probably the Medical Research Council if you are in the UK) who will also have a hand in overseeing progress. Several UK Universities carry out this type of research both as original work and in the clinical setting. Personally I do not view sleep research as a traditional health and safety issue - you may wish to disagree, but there are so many constraints on the work, that it is, in fact, as well controlled as any other in the University setting. It is for the senior medical researcher(s) to instigate, develop and guide the work and to be responsible for its safe progress. See http://www.lboro.ac.uk/d...rtments/hu/groups/sleep/http://www.surrey.ac.uk/SBMS/SSRC/and http://www2.warwick.ac.u.../med/research/csri/sleep as examples of UK research centres
