Posted By Patrick Canning I'm looking to give out an information pack or good tool box talk on cancer in the construction industry, now that we are heading into the summer. I have looked in all the usual places but cant find the right info, most are just too heavy, I'm looking to shock & inform not educate to a high standard.

Posted By Pete Longworth OK what about looking at tarmacking, asbestos removal in demolition, hexavalent chromium in cement (I think that is correct), respirable dusts from cutting masonry, hardwoods etc., formalin from cutting MDF, skin cancers from the effects of sunlight. I'm sure there are others but those are just off the top of my head.

Posted By water67. Hi, Good point from Bob. There is some perception that because asbestos is no longer used for new build the threat/risk is low. remember anything built up to 1990 could have asbestos. many older buildings particularly schools built in the sixties are due for major refurb or demolition..lots of asbestos.
cheers.

Just a mild correction the cut off date for the HSE is 2000 not 1990. I personally still saw it being installed well into 1998.
