hi,
our company uses a 'scafftag' type inspection document to record daily and weekly vehicle inspection checks. they are set up to last a month.
what i am wondering is how long do these records need to be kept for. the reason i ask is, the operatives with company vehicles are wiping them clean every month and re-using them. is this legal? is there a specified date for how long documents should be kept as proof that these checks are being done?
cheers

Assuming they are normal company type vehicles ie cars, vans etc I am not aware of any statutory requirement to keep records for any specific period. However, seeing as you are going to the trouble of checking vehicles why not keep a log book either in the vehicle or some other place. Then log books can be retained for a defined length of time once they are full.
