Posted By Chris G It must be a Friday. Had an interesting visit to the Safety & Helth Expo at the NEC. Having taken a good walk round the stands & visited a few sminar theatres I got nattering to one of the HSE reps. They are currently campaigning about slip / trip hazards in the workplace. It occured to me that at a large exhibition like this there are many changes of level / surface textue, some subtle & some not so. Should perhaps the organisers of shows have some sort of standard for exhibitors, in order to smooth out all these trip / slip hazards??
Also, did anyone do a manual handling asseessment of all the bages of catalogues they ended up carrying?
Enjoy the weekend.

Posted By Dave Merchant The stands in IFSEC were far worse - I spotted several which had floors raised by a few inches but not even so much as a contrasting edge strip. Stand design is down to the exhibitor, and having worked on events for years I know that H+S is way down the list. It's impressive when someone books a spot with one 13-amp socket and by doors open they've got 50 spotlights and a coffee maker running!
I wonder who did the risk assessment for the guy who spent all day in the middle of Hall 19 with an owl...

Posted By Ken M I also visited the exhibition this week and although Health and Safety focused, I was amazed by the amount of plastic bags being given out. Moreover I was amazed further when I looked into these plastic bags to find a 1 page flyer or a branded pencil sharpener.
All those plastic bags cant be good for the environment.

Posted By Thomas Dallow Hello,
I was also at NEC on Tuesday and thought how badly the arrangements for the disabled were!!
My colleague had sustained an injury and when he went to collect a wheelchair was asked to pay a charge, he had to hobble about because he had insufficient funds.
So who did this risk assessment and who would be to blame here should an incident occur MR HSE??
