Can anyone help me? I have been informed that a licence/certificate is needed for the use of nail guns in cinstruction use. Has anyone heard of this and can anyone point me in the right direction for information on this.
Many Thanks

Hi Ian,
If you speak to the supplier they normally provide training too for cartridge operated nail guns. Because this equipment falls under the 'Work equipment' Regs they will need training. In the wrong hands these can be a very dangerous piece of equipment as they can fire nails at a high velocity in most cases. The sort of information the operator will need to know is such as pre-use checks, types of canisters i.e colour coded, do's and don'ts when operating it, what to do in the event of a blockage or a stoppage etc.The supplier will only normally go through basic maintenance of the gun, however they will provide a card to say they have ben given basic training as such. If you speak to manufacturers such as Bosch or Hilti they will point you in the right direction.
regards, JJ

Also the user must be over 18 and not colour blind.

Powder actuated guns and associated cartridges would possible be captured by Explosives Legislation (in much the same way as for spare cartridges for vehicle airbags and seat belt tensioners).
Your local Police and/or Trading Standards Authority should be able to offer you advice, most likely concerned with safe storage.

Hi Ian
Contact Paslode, and the training and certification is free, they even come to your establishment.
Jayjay the nails are only fired into the materials or object where the head of the gun has been depressed at high velocity, seen a demonstration where a trainer pulled back the depressing nozzle and fired the gun, the nail just dropped to the floor, it needs resistance, you cant just shoot it like a gun.

Patrick,
I'm not sure if you can still get the type without a captive plunger, as you could when I were a lad, but those could certainly fire a nail like a gun if pressed against something like plywood.
I once shot a nail through a wooden partition (didn't check!) and straight into the hot water cylinder on the other side (many years ago).
