Cheater (magnified) Lenses for welding screens

Has anyone had any history with the use of cheater lenses (magnified lenses) for use in welding screens? We have some employees who have poor eye sight and have to wear prescription safety glasses under their welding screens. This is not a problem until they need to weld whilst using breathing equipment as the handles of the spectacles interfere with the seal on the BA equipment. Historically we have used the cheater lenses to magnify the job so they can see more easily. However I am concerned that these magnified lenses will be causing more damage to the operative’s eyes. Is there anywhere anybody knows where I can get some information regarding this subject. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This sound like a tech question for an optician as the magnifying effect will affect the eyes. What about armless glasses?

We are currently in the process of purchasing some armless glasses; however we have a job that urgently needs to start next week and it is taking some time to get the frames, then the correct prescription lenses fitted in time. Thanks for your advice.
