Can anybody help?

I have been asked the question, what competencies does a delivery driver require to enter a site, unlash his load and lash a load for return delivery.

Does he require full induction by the principal contractor and does he require an indate CSCS card.

At what stage does the client receiving the delivery take charge of the load.

Any pointers would be ideal, as I think this is a bit of a grey area and a little inconsistent on most sites.

If they visit regularly then get them the proper induction. However, if it is just likely to be a one off, we give a set of rules cards to the gateman who give them out to drivers when they come in. They only go to the delivery bay, so it is not like they are going accross the whole site. The cards list some basic rules, such as wear hat, vest, boots, no smoking etc etc, then a diagram on the back of the fire exits and traffic routes

We only permit them to lash and unlash the load. Everything else is done by our banksmen, slingers, forklift and crane operators. They should especially be prevented from climbing on the wagon bed (if applicable) due to the WAHR 2005. You should have something in place for this with your own banksmen.

We dont insist on CSCS cards for the delivery drivers. As all they do is drive on, then drive off the driving licence is sufficient although this is not checked as a matter of course. This is a case of how far do you want to go. Theoretically you could also ask to see his tax and insurance, but i dont think that this necessary due to the level of risk.
