Hi Everybody
Need to use a dumper in a low headroom area, the ROPS has to be folded down to fit in.
The ground is level under this area, speed will be low due to nature of work and driver trained.
PC has asked us to find a dumper with lower ROPS as they do not want to let us work with the ROPS down.
Can see their point, does anybody have experience of this and found realistic solutions?
Thanks

Hello Catman
From my experience in the hire industry I would suggest that you look at alternatives such as walk behind tracked carriers, stand on skid steers or conveyors.
My worry would be that if the ROPS was folded down and there is limited headroom the risk to operator injuring his head or becoming crushed is very high.
You do not say what quantity of spoil is being moved so not sure of definite answer to this.
E-mail me direct if I can help further

Thanks, those are the options I have been looking at, it is working out at just over 1500 tonnes of spoil to move over approx 100m trave distance of flat ground so looking for the most realistic option.
The people who are actually managing the job want to make sure the safest and most cost effective option is used.
I expect to be told at some point today that "safety is important but we have to get this finished quickly" so getting my ducks in a row for the standard arguments.
