Hi to all !
Having spend only one hour in the forum, I have to say that my first impression is that it is a great place for sharing and learning.
Hence, I would like to ask about regular testing of lifting equipment, that is used not as a part of a machine (crane for example) but only for other lifting purposes. For example is there legislation covering regular testing for shackles, chains, wire ropes etc. If not what it should be done and by who? Visual inspection, NDT ?
Thank you in advance for your time answering.

Hi Mitch.
I am based in Athens, Greece and I am wondering if there is something in EU legislation that is related to the subject.
Thanks

Konstantinos,
We are governed by the LOLER regs in this country, nothing EU wide that I have come across, though I am sure I will be corrected if there is something. To comply with the regulations in the UK training is available for routine inspection of lifting equipment, pre-use. I am sure there would be a number of trainers willing to travel to Athens at your expense to provide training should you so wish! We have all our lifting equipment inspected annually except our forklift and cage which are inspected every 6 months as they are used to lift people. You might like to try the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association at www.leea.co.uk who can offer specific competent advice and possibly put you in touch with local contacts.
