Posted By JasonGould I am just trying to gauge the existing and potential market prices for the following before taking this any further. I believe there is some software around however these have been quoted as being somewhat very expensive and does not suit the medium and smaller companies/consultancies. At the moment I am mid stage in creating a CDM2007 software framework that can also produce KPI info and reports automatically e.g. Stage of project, running cost, competence etc etc. This will cover Clients, Designers, CDM-C etc, for both notifiable and non notifiable jobs and be a point a click system totally based within normal Microsoft office. It includes a competence calculator for any duty holder to measure the competence of others and produce a report as well as a simple excel database which counts down the days between assessments. It is possible to do comparison data also. It also includes a Construction Phase Plan review tool that can produce a report at a few click. Basic standard letters etc etc etc. Pretty basic stuff but all individual and formatted to a quality standard. The beauty will be that the framework can be tied to any existing documents that may exist within a company. I intend on popping this tool (10 Megs max) into a project folder and from that point, the tool will act as a user friendly bank of my companies CDM procedures, documents etc for quick retrieval and document control. As well as this it will have completions points that can generate a status report. Now this is going to be in both UK and IE formats. Not too complicated but has a degree of sophistication in which helps the user better manage the document requirements of their cdm process,. I have the CDM-C process pretty much covered but want to get a basic feeling on what can be included and linked with the other duty holders. My questions are as follows, 1. What else is out there? 2. Whats its cost? 3. How many companies potentially carry our all duty holder duties? 3. Will this die out and go web based soon anyway. Any comments welcome

Posted By JasonGould I have just finished a CDM2007 competence calculator / database / report generator if anyone is interested (It is in Alpha Stage). Based on excel format for now and suitable for all duty holders to use, this can be used to do the following:- ? Covers the core criteria set out in appendix 4 of the CDM 2007 ACoP and all kept within one simple excel book (no multiple documents and registers). ? Has the ability for assessors to apply pragmatic and varying methods of assessing competence e.g. non bureaucratic and non restrictive (can be tweaked). ? Automatically adds next review date and a countdown time so regular appointee's need not go through repetitive regimes. ? Has the ability to add notes on each core criteria e.g. evidence of competence demonstrated by oral presentation given by candidate etc (Suggested to keep notes by APS). ? Has the ability to assess individuals as well as organisations for a deeper breakdown of key project members should this be required. ? Creates a separate sheet and adds to a project database at the click of one button. Will later be developed to automatically update a corporate database. ? Automatically creates a report on each candidate showing percentage of competence demonstrated, individual scores and graphical data. ? Can be used to assist in deciding best candidates from multiple tender returns and interview stages (Can possibly add other areas e.g. finance information, methodology judgements etc. ? Has features within the workbook that can be used for later KPI or Trend analysis e.g. average scores showing repetitive weak areas for numerous candidates. ? Many features not mentioned here including ability to customise for other subject areas relating to health and safety e.g. staff competence, qualification tracking etc. This is in very early stages but I think I am on the right track and just need some feedback on taking this further as well as refining a few rough edges. I need a few persons to try it out and provide some feedback so I can finalise and release as freeware. You will need excel 2007 otherwise the colours may be distorted. Please contact me directly and only post feedback on here rather than request. Thanks p.s. the rest of the CDM compliance suite is coming on slowly but surely and will be released later this year. I am looking for a hosting partner whom knows how to take such software to the next step and is able to host this free software so the industry can benefit. As previously mentioned it is a work in progress project however the aim is to simply provide a framework that can be easily linked to any companies existing documents and simply modified to suit each company. Posted By Bob Youel 1.What else is out there? Thers a number of systems out there - some bcan be bespoke some not 2. Whats its cost? Varies but some are v-expensive 3. How many companies potentially carry our all duty holder duties? 1000's! 3. Will this die out and go web based soon anyway. Some areas may never be web based but that another idea for you for the future managing CDM is not rocket science and any reasonable company should be able to produce systems in house from things already there The biggest problem is getting people to actually manage as against having a nice paper etc system keep your price right and make your system user friendly and you should make some £!

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith Jason, Would your PI insurance cover this software? If not the cost of insurance could be interesting.

Posted By JasonGould Not sure, regarding the PI insurance at this stage as I have no intention of selling the templates themselves. It will clearly only be a bespoke framework template and a number of office based tools of which each user will need to customise it to fit with their existing documents and procedures and their own IT department would need to check it for compatibility etc. Not much more different than getting templates of the net really. Whilst I may include some standard CDM letters text and documents etc, that's not to say it will suit a company's letter headed paper etc or in fact say what they want it to say so that part will be left to users to decide on how to implement and draft such documents. In toher words, this will need to be tweaked to suit anyway. Having looked at this for some time now and also being placed to look at different ways in which different companies are currently doing the whole CDM thing, I can say that such a thing wont do any harm, even if only used as a comparison to give ideas for a company / CDM-C to improve his own systems or decide that they have done enough with what they have got in place already. Currently it is nothing more than a excel sheet of which links to the general CDM Process maps for each CDM duty holder. Within it are certain places where duty holders will hyperlink to their own letters, documents, tools etc however the process map will have the ability to input certain KPI info and working documents will already be in their subsequent folders for later retrieval. The overall aim is to have just one installable CDM folder of which is installed within each project folder and run from within one excel file linking to all the required documents, letters and tools. It will not and never will make the CDM-C better at what he does, It is aimed to just help him get more out of his time. Anyway a while of yet so back to it
