Morning all

I would like to know peoples opinion on the use of headphones with in an warehouse environment.

With a small team of operators, 4 generally with the potential for up to 8 people working within the warehouse (at the later end of the day). The occasional use of 2 battery operated forklifts (max time 2 hours combined for the day).

They are currently only having one ear piece in so that other communication can be heard, such as alarms, telephones etc.

What would you do, I have a plan, but would be appreciate other professionals views.

Many thanks

My main issue would be with individual being distracted or not being able to hear when he needs to. Headphones are great for getting into a world of your own with the music but exactly what you don't need in a warehouse.

Headphones are banned in our warehouse for this reason.

I would have to agree with Brando.

Our warehouse banned the use of headphones due to distraction and not being able to adequately hear other vehicles, horns etc

I concur with others that use of personal headphones should not be worn in a working environment. This can lead to many concerns of working safely. The employer and employees both have legal duties to ensure no harm is caused. By allowing the use of headphones will in my opinon destract away from being safe and general awareness especially when there is other noise factors i.e. moving vehicles. I suggest getting support from management and producing safety arrangement policy on the use of headphones. We have done this in our workplace and our employer and partners employ over 5,000 people.
