Google manhole lifters. Just brought the 3 wheeled type with a hydraulic lift. It works OK on most manholes I've tried. Alignment can be finiky. It takes apart to go in a car boot. Beacuse of the 1500kg lifting force available for releasing jammed covers my Business HS&E Manager required ours to be treated as lifting equipment under LOLER, as well as PUWER being applied & a risk assessment generating for transport, assembly & use.

I trust that there will also be sufficient room in your 'normal car' for all the other work equipment required to protect you, your work colleagues and the general public from the hazards associated with the manhole you open!

I know from experience that lifting manhole covers can be a pain in the back, quite literally.
If you want a manhole cover lifting device, then have a look at this web site.
The inventor has invented a fantastic device for lifting all types of covers.
Best of all its light and easy to carry.
