Posted By geecee minimal persons use this warehouse but unsure whether physical barrier between pedestrians and vehicles is necessary or good practice. Currently relying on driver procedure and marked out pedestrian lane - which is well observed. Visitors accompanied though engineers etc. have some freedom to roam the site. What is acceptable? Also goods-in and despatch areas from the 1500sq m warehouse are obvious crossing points. Difficult to have barriers as you need the flexibility to bring in stock and allow other mobile equipment in and out. Anyone got a good handle on where we satnd - all comments appreciated?

Posted By jervis Sounds like you have it under control the only thing i could think of do the vehicles have a flashing light or siren in use when around pedestrian places !

Posted By Phil Errup Visitors should NOT have freedom to "roam" unless you have given them adequate induction. As Jervis said, if the drivers use their horns as they have been trained to do, and the trucks are in good working order with missors, flashing beacons etc, then that should be fine. But once again, you need to do a risk assessment to ensure you have thought of every "reasonable" eventuality. It is impossible to give you a definitive answer without seeing the layout of your warehouse, so go for a walk around it again, and imagine you are a visitor, then think, "whats the worst that can happen" Good luck, Phil

Posted By geecee thanks all we have stressed horns and sirens etc. - and all drivers trained as mentioned. still feel it is impossible to fully segregate vehicles and pedestrians because of crossing points - but this is the thrust of most of the guidance! basically seems to be one of those that you as low a risk as is practicable - even drivers have to wealk to forklifts. regards
